Hi guys. I'm sure it hasn't escaped everyone's attention that the numbers participating in FLMS events has been steadily declining over the past few months. I've been looking around, and other FM4 leagues appear to be suffering similarly, although perhaps not to the same extent as here. The FLMS has always been a niche series, not everyone's cup of tea, and therefore has never really attracted the colossal numbers of other FM leagues. However, I feel that we are now at a crossroads. With the arrival of Xbox One and FM5, the entire FM community was really split in two. After looking at FM5, we felt at the time that it wasn't a viable option for this series. So we stuck with FM4. But it seems that more and more are switching, or moving away from FM altogether. Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to gauge the community's thoughts on what we should do for the future of the series. I'll give you my thoughts... The way I see it, there are three options. 1. Move to FM5 - I know there are some who think this the best option. There definitely seems to be a lot more people playing it not compared to the start of the year. But, in my view, the game is still massively flawed and obviously unfinished. There's hardly any prototypes or GT cars, so we'd end up with a prototype class of R18s and 908s, and GT class of Ferrari, Viper and Corvette (unless we built them from road cars). There is a smaller selection of tracks. The penalty system is a joke, and totally open to abuse, with very little we can do to police it. And then there's the community platform, which is such a big step backwards over FM4, its ridiculous. I mean, no gifting? That's fundamental. 2. Move to Project CARS - I definitely think this game is worth having a serious look at. We won't know until we play it for ourselves whether its suitable for the series. But it definitely looks promising. 3. Stick with FM4 - I still think its the most suitable platform currently available to us. But I wouldn't be posting this if it wasn't without problems. And that problem is the numbers obviously. I'm trying to keep the current season going until the end. But I'm thinking that we should also look at setting up a mini series on FM5. Start it in about a months time and run maybe a six race series on the American tracks or something. I don't know exactly what format it would take yet, I'm open to ideas and suggestions. I would also need people to help me with it. I won't be able to run it on my own. So yeah, please post below with your own thoughts on what you think should be done, or anything else relevant. Thanks. |
